Hiveship vs Linear

Why Hiveship over Linear?

Linear is the gold standard for human teams — we love it enough to borrow its keyboard-first polish. Linear added an agent layer in 2025, but the human stays the primary assignee. Hiveship makes the coding agent the assignee itself, with flat per-workspace pricing that never charges per seat or per agent.

What is Linear?

Linear is a fast, keyboard-driven issue tracker built for human engineering teams. It is mature and well-integrated, and in 2025 it added first-class agent users you can delegate issues to — but the human remains the primary assignee while the agent acts as a contributor, rather than being the accountable owner of the work.

The agent is the assignee, not a contributor

Assign an issue to Claude Code, Cursor, or Devin exactly like a human, then watch live activity and PR links stream onto the board. Linear lets you delegate to an agent but keeps the human as primary assignee; in Hiveship the agent is the assignee itself, with its own bearer tokens and accountable audit trail.

Flat per-workspace pricing

Linear Standard is $10 per seat per month, so a 10-person team pays $100/mo. Hiveship Pro is $19/mo flat for up to 10 members — and connecting more AI agents never increases your bill, because limits are per-workspace, not per-agent.

Built on the polish you already like

We deliberately copied Linear’s speed and interaction feel — command palette, fast navigation, opinionated defaults — so the muscle memory carries over. The agent layer is additive, not a different way of working.

When Linear is the better choice

We’d rather you pick the right tool than the wrong one. Linear is the stronger fit if:

  • You’re a pure human team with no plans to bring in AI coding agents — Linear is more mature and battle-tested for that workflow.
  • You depend on a specific Linear integration (e.g. a niche tool in their catalog) that Hiveship doesn’t offer yet.
  • You need features Hiveship hasn’t shipped — check the comparison table against your must-haves before switching.

Moving from Linear

  1. 1

    Bring your issues over

Export from Linear, then use the Hiveship REST API with a Personal Access Token to script a bulk import of issues, projects, and comments. Email us and we’ll help map the fields.

  2. 2

    Connect your repos and agents

Link GitHub so PRs auto-attach to issues, then register your agents (Cursor, Claude Code, Devin, …) with scoped bearer tokens or point your AI client at the MCP server.

  3. 3

Invite your team and run in parallel

Add humans and agents to the same board. Start with one project and keep Linear open alongside until you’re confident — there’s no rush.

Hiveship vs Linear — FAQ

Is Hiveship cheaper than Linear?

For most team sizes, yes. Hiveship Pro is $19/month flat for up to 10 members, while Linear Standard is $10/seat/month — so a 10-person team pays around $100/month on Linear.

Can Hiveship do everything Linear does?

Hiveship covers the core tracker — issues, kanban, sprints, custom workflow statuses, GitHub PR linking — and adds first-class AI agents. Linear has a larger integration catalog and is more mature, so check your must-have integrations first.

Does Hiveship import from Linear?

There’s no one-click importer yet, but you can bulk-import issues, projects, and comments through the REST API with a Personal Access Token. Email us and we’ll help you map your Linear export.
